Detailed Itinerary Overview

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival in Baghdad, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred privately to your hotel. After check-in, the rest of the day is free for you to relax and recover from your journey.
This is a calm introduction to Iraq, allowing you to settle in comfortably and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Discover Baghdad, the heart of Iraq

 We start at Liberation Square, one of Baghdad’s most iconic landmarks, known for its symbolic monuments and role in modern Iraqi history.

From there, we enjoy a short boat ride across the Tigris River to reach Al-Mutanabi Street, the cultural heart of the city, famous for its book market and intellectual atmosphere.

Next, we visit the Abbasid Palace, a remarkable example of medieval Islamic architecture from Baghdad’s golden era.

We continue through the Old Bazaar and the Copper Market, where the traditional spirit of Baghdad is still alive in its vibrant trade and craftsmanship.

Later, we head to Ctesiphon, home to the monumental arch of the ancient Sassanian capital—one of the most impressive surviving structures of the ancient world.

The day concludes with a visit to the Imam Khadim Shrine, an important spiritual site known for its golden domes and intricate artistry.

Day 3: Baghdad – Babylon – Karbala

Our day begins at the National Museum of Iraq, where priceless artifacts from Mesopotamian, Assyrian, Babylonian, and Islamic periods bring Iraq’s history to life.

We then travel to the legendary city of Babylon, one of the most important ancient cities in human history. Here, we explore its archaeological remains, including the area linked to the Hanging Gardens and the ruins of King Nebuchadnezzar’s palace.

We also visit Saddam Hussein’s Palace, built overlooking ancient Babylon and inspired by its historical grandeur.

Afterwards, we continue to Karbala, where you will have time to rest at a local restaurant and hotel.

In the evening, we visit the Imam Abbas Shrine, dedicated to a revered historical figure known for his bravery and loyalty during the Battle of Karbala.

We then proceed to the Imam Hussein Shrine, one of the most significant spiritual sites in the Islamic world, honoring Imam Hussein, grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

Day 4: Karbala – Najaf – Nasiriyah

We begin in Najaf, visiting Wadi al-Salaam, the largest cemetery in the world and a deeply significant spiritual site.

From there, we travel to Uruk, one of the world’s earliest cities and a key center of Sumerian civilization, known for its ancient temples and early development of writing.

We then continue to Nasiriyah to explore the Ziggurat of Ur, a remarkable stepped temple dedicated to ancient Mesopotamian gods and one of Iraq’s most iconic landmarks.

Day 5: Marshes of Iraq – Back to Baghdad

Today we explore the Mesopotamian Marshes, the largest wetland region in the Middle East and one of Iraq’s most unique natural and cultural landscapes. This area is home to the Marsh Arabs, who have preserved their traditional lifestyle for thousands of years.

We take a traditional boat ride on a shakhtura, navigating through narrow waterways surrounded by reeds, offering a peaceful and authentic experience of marsh life. Along the way, we visit local communities, share traditional tea, and learn about their way of life.

Lunch is served in a traditional reed house (almutheef), where we enjoy masgouf, Iraq’s famous grilled fish prepared over natural reeds.

On the return to Baghdad, we stop at Bab Alagha, a famous local sweets shop often nicknamed the “Iraqi Willy Wonka,” where you can taste a variety of traditional Iraqi desserts.

Day 6: Baghdad – Samarra – Mosul

 We begin our journey with the Great Mosque of Samarra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique spiral Minaret, built in the 9th century during the Abbasid Caliphate as part of one of the most important Islamic capitals in history.

Next, we visit Abu Dalaf Mosque, another historic site featuring a distinctive spiral minaret and reflecting early Islamic architectural innovation.

We then continue our drive toward Mosul, stopping at Hatra along the way. Hatra is an ancient fortified city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its impressive temples, defensive walls, and remarkable blend of Greco-Roman and Eastern architectural influences. Once a powerful religious and trading center of the Parthian Empire, it remains one of Iraq’s most important archaeological sites

Overnight in Mosul

Day 7: Mosul – Duhok

We begin the day with the remains of the Assyrian Wall, part of the ancient fortifications built by the Assyrian Empire to protect its capital and surrounding territories. These structures reflect the strength and advanced engineering of one of history’s earliest great civilizations.

We then explore the Old City of Mosul, a historic district that has witnessed centuries of cultural richness as well as recent destruction and ongoing restoration. Walking through its streets offers a powerful insight into the resilience of the city and its people.

We continue through Mosul’s traditional bazaars, mosques, and churches, showcasing the city’s long-standing diversity and cultural depth.

In the afternoon, we travel through the scenic landscapes of Kurdistan, passing mountains and valleys on our way to Duhok.

Day 8: Duhok – Lalish – Akre – Erbil

We begin at Rabban Hormizd Monastery, an important historical Christian site located on a dramatic mountainside, offering insight into centuries of monastic life in the region.

Next, we visit Lalish, the holiest site of the Yazidi faith. This peaceful valley is home to sacred temples, tombs, and courtyards, offering a deep understanding of Yazidi spirituality and traditions.

We continue to Khinis, where we explore ancient Assyrian rock reliefs depicting kings, military victories, and ceremonial scenes carved into stone thousands of years ago.

We then visit Mar Mattai Monastery, one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world, located on Mount Alfaf. It offers breathtaking views and a deep sense of historical continuity.

Afterward, we travel to Akre, a beautiful mountain town known for its traditional stone houses, dramatic scenery, and rich cultural heritage.

Finally, we arrive in Erbil and visit the Citadel , one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in the world. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and experience the vibrant atmosphere of modern Erbil.
