Day 1: Arrival in Baghdad

Upon your arrival at Baghdad International Airport, you will be welcomed by your local guide before being transferred to your hotel to check in. The remainder of the day is yours to relax after your journey and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Baghdad Highlights & Ancient Ctesiphon

Start your exploration of Iraq’s capital at Liberation Square, a landmark that reflects the city’s modern identity and contemporary history.

Cross the Tigris River by local boat before reaching Al-Mutanabbi Street, Baghdad’s celebrated cultural district. Lined with historic bookshops, traditional cafés, and literary heritage, it remains one of the city’s most beloved gathering places.

Continue to the Abbasid Palace, one of the few surviving structures from the Abbasid period, offering a glimpse into Baghdad’s role during the Islamic Golden Age.

Stroll through the Old Bazaar and the traditional Copper Market, where local artisans continue centuries-old metalworking traditions alongside bustling market life.

In the afternoon, travel to Ctesiphon to admire the magnificent Taq Kasra, the enormous brick arch that once formed part of the Sassanian imperial capital and remains one of Iraq’s greatest archaeological landmarks.

Before returning to your hotel, visit the Imam Kadhim Shrine, admired for its golden domes, intricate Islamic architecture, and important place in Iraq’s religious heritage.

Day 3: Ancient Babylon & Evening in Karada

Depart Baghdad for Babylon, one of the world’s most celebrated archaeological cities and a symbol of ancient Mesopotamian civilization.

Explore the excavated ruins together with reconstructed sections of the ancient metropolis, learning about its remarkable history under King Nebuchadnezzar II and its influence on architecture, politics, and trade throughout the ancient Near East.

Visit the area traditionally associated with the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of history’s most enduring stories.

Continue to the hilltop Saddam Hussein Palace, which overlooks Babylon and today serves as a museum and panoramic viewpoint across the archaeological site.

Return to Baghdad in the afternoon.

After dark, experience a different side of the capital with a walk through Karada, one of Baghdad’s liveliest districts. Filled with cafés, restaurants, boutiques, and local families enjoying the evening, it offers an authentic look at modern city life.

Overnight in Baghdad

Day 4 : Samarra & Dur-Kurigalzu

Travel north from Baghdad to Samarra, the former Abbasid capital and one of Iraq’s most significant historic cities.

Visit the Great Mosque of Samarra, famous for its extraordinary Malwiya Spiral Minaret, an architectural masterpiece that remains one of the defining monuments of early Islamic civilization.

Continue to the nearby Abu Dulaf Mosque, another impressive Abbasid monument recognized for its vast brick construction and spiral minaret inspired by Samarra’s distinctive architectural style.

On the return journey to Baghdad, stop at Dur-Kurigalzu, the ancient Kassite capital founded more than three thousand years ago. The archaeological remains provide insight into another chapter of Mesopotamia’s long and fascinating history.
